The Person Manager allows you to edit the author and artist information that is contained within your Dispatch database. In addition, you may delete a name or merge one entry with another. The main Person Manager screen shows a table which lists all Authors in alphabetical order, based on their last names. Artists are listed on a separate screen. Hyperlinks above the table will take you back and forth between authors and artists. The table also shows first names, middle names, icons that indicate whether an e-mail address or homepage URL exists, the number of stories associated with an author, and hyperlinks for editing, merging or deleting an entry.
Clicking the same column header a second time will reverse the current display order. NOTE: You can set the names, e-mail address, and homepage URL during the Person Definition portion of the Publisher process. After publishing, that information is accessible only through the Person Manager.
Enter an e-mail address or homepage URL in the appropriate blanks. (When entering a homepage URL, be sure to include the "http://" prefix.) Using the appropriate Dispatch tag, you can have an author's or artist's byline linked to their e-mail address or homepage:
To delete an author or artist from the Dispatch database, click the "delete" hyperlink on the same row on the main Person Manager screen. On the succeeding screen (right), make sure the "Delete" radio button has been selected and click on the "Submit" icon. The author or artist name will be removed from the database. NOTE: This will remove only the name, not any stories or images it is associated with.
Often an author or artist may be stored in your database with differing entries. In order to consolidate these entries, you can merge them. From the main Person Manager screen, click the "merge" hyperlink on the row with the name which is to be merged and then select the name which is to be merged into from the dropdown list on the succeeding screen. For example, to merge John Public with John Q. Public, click on the "merge" hyperlink on the John Public row. On the succeeding screen, make sure the "Merge" radio button has been selected, then select John Q. Public from the dropdown list and click the "Submit" icon. The entries will be merged under the John Q. Public name. You can confirm the merger by noting that the number of stories is now the sum of the previous two numbers. These actions affect the database only. Changes in pages will occur at the time of any subsequent builds or rebuilds.
